DIY tea towel pillow

Last Christmas I created a super cute throw pillow using tea towels from the dollar store.  I never got around to blogging it, but I am now!  This DIY is quick, easy, cheap and requires no sewing so I hope you will try it out.

  • 2 printed tea towels
  • scissors
  • batting or stuffing
  • glue gun

  1. Cut excess material off towels to make them square, or skip this step if your design allows for a rectangular pillow.
  2. Line up your towels with the wrong sides in and apply small amount of glue to the edges.  Press fabric lightly to ensure glue sticks.
  3. Glue around 3 sides and most of the 4th, leaving room to stuff it.
  4. Stuff your pillow using batting or stuffing (I used the fill from an old bed pillow) and glue the remaining edge shut.

This image shows the “raw edge” where I cut my fabric to make the pillow more square.  If I were to do this again, I’d make sure the edge that is cut is along the bottom of the towel so that it is hidden.

Since I used 2 different towels I get more than 1 design with this pillow!

This little DIY project would be a great gift to make someone on your Christmas list!  And since you can find super cute tea towels at the dollar store, you can make a whole bunch of pillows!!!

  1. I’m so glad you did this because I have the cutest Christmas fabric I’ve been wanting to make a pillow out of and I don’t own a sowing machine yet. Thanks! :)
