female role models in the Bible: introduction to the series

Months ago I was telling David I wished there was a book about all the women of the Bible so I could have a reference for where their stories are located, as well as material for studying up on those I found especially fascinating. A few weeks later I was perusing the books at the church library, when I happened across a gem by Herbert Lockyer entitled All the Women of the Bible. I was so excited to find the exact book I was looking for, and then decided to pick a few outstanding women with admirable traits, and do a series of blog post on why I think they are great role models for the modern Christian woman.

I wrote the outline for the posts in this series in the university cafeteria, while David was attending class, and I just KNEW this was going to be something great!  Not necessarily because I am a great writer, but because I believe finding the exact book I desired was God nudging me in this direction.  I loved going through the Bible reading about women I previously only knew by name, and found myself desiring to emulate their qualities.

Instead of focussing on women like Sarah, Esther, Mary (mother of Jesus), or sisters Mary and Martha, I am spending each week on a woman that I did not have much knowledge about.  Every post will have a bit of background on these women, what we can learn from them, and why they are a great role model for women in present day.

As of now I am planning to write one post on each of the following women: Dorcas, Hannah, Joanna, Lydia, and Priscilla. I hope you will enjoy this series, and learn something from these women, just as I have.  If you haven’t already, be sure to sign up to receive new blog posts via e-mail (you can do so in the little box on the right hand side of the page. If you are using a smart phone, just scroll aaaaall the way down to the bottom of the page).
