thrift “haul” and what I’m donating

On the weekend my mom and I did a little thrift shopping. While we enjoy mall shopping, usually we end up at the thrift store because there are so many different styles of clothes all in one store.

In an effort to reduce the amount of “stuff” we have in our home I make a point of not shopping for clothes very often.  When I do, I stick to a list of items I know I need or really want.  This shopping trip was a little different because I only got one thing that was on my list, but the other items I took home were unexpected surprises.  I bought them because they will go with a lot of things in my wardrobe and they are very different from anything I currently own.

First up is this white cotton skirt.  It was actually in the slip section, so that’s what I thought it was, but when I showed my mom she said it looked more like a skirt. It’s lined with a silky fabric so I’m going to wear it as a skirt!

It’s really simple, which I like, but it does have a cute hem!ourwoodhome

I found a half slip, which actually was on my list.  I likely won’t be getting much use out of this now, since I really only wear a slip when I’m wearing tights and a skirt, but I’m glad to have found it anyways.  The slip I already had was pretty short so it didn’t do me a whole lot of good. This one hits about knee length.

I found a super cute sleeveless top which will look awesome with my denim pencil skirts!

The pattern has leaves, some birds, and little vespas!  How cute is that?

This denim peplum top is my favourite find!  I actually pulled it for my mom to try on but it didn’t fit her properly so I tried it on and it fit very well.  I’m not usually a fan of studs, but I like how they look on collar.

The last item I got was a dress marked “vintage” that is surprisingly passable.  It does have shoulder pads and a weird belt which will be removed but the fit is good and the length is nice for cooler weather.  This dress likely won’t get worn until next fall, but I plan to pair it with black riding boots or maybe brown oxford heels.

Now for the items I’m donating.  I had recently gone through my clothes and gathered a full garbage bag’s worth to donate, but then I realized I had more to get rid of.  My criteria for deciding to donate something is how well it does or doesn’t fit, how often I wear it, and how much I like it.  I try not to make rash decisions about clothes because I don’t want to regret giving something away.

I’ve been avoiding wearing this dress for a while because it has started to pill under the arms and is getting a little tight.  For those reasons I’m donating it.

I want to keep this sweater dress but it is considerably too tight and short.  I wore this for my engagement photos so it has sentimental value, but since I have photos of me wearing it, I can donate this.

I bought this skirt (second hand) in the fall but it is a little too tight for my comfort.  I also have a hard time finding things to wear with it, besides black, which felt too harsh.  I’ve only worn this skirt once, so knowing that I haven’t chosen it again all season means it’s easy to let go of.

I’m still on the hunt for a nice white top for summer as well as a denim jacket.  Hopefully I can find those pieces soon, because I know they will be worn a lot and add longevity to my current pieces.

Are there any clothes you are looking to buy for spring and summer?

  1. Great finds! I always get excited when I find a vintage dress that can pass for modern. Currently on my list for summer is a lightweight, short sleeve cardigan that I can layer over sleeveless shirts.
